Long radiant solitaire rings
A radiant is an emerald cut's rectangle with cut corners, faceted like a brilliant instead of in steps. A long radiant, or elongated radiant, stretches that rectangle to a ratio of 1.35 and above, and the result is the shape that reads largest per carat of any rectangular stone, with a dense, crushed-ice sparkle that hides inclusions better than anything but a round. It has become the most asked-for rectangular shape in the United States, usually in lab-grown and usually big, and this page is for it.

Why the long radiant has taken over from the emerald cut
Same silhouette, opposite temperament. An emerald cut flashes in sheets and shows every inclusion; a radiant glitters all over and forgives them. For somebody who wants the long, clean rectangle on the hand but wants it to sparkle, the radiant is the answer, and once it is elongated it lengthens the finger exactly as an oval does while keeping straight sides. The cut corners mean there is no point to chip, which makes it one of the most practical fancy shapes for daily wear.
The trade-offs are two. Crushed-ice faceting can read busy to some eyes, with no pattern to rest on; see one in person or on video. And any elongated brilliant can show a bow-tie, less than an oval because of the corner facets, but present; a well-cut long radiant keeps it faint.
- Ratio
- 1.35 to 1.50 is the long radiant most people mean. 1.50 to 1.70 reads very long and slim. Below 1.30 it is simply a radiant. There is no correct number, only the one you prefer on your hand.
- Setting
- Four claws on the cut corners is the classic and protects them naturally. A hidden halo under the stone adds sparkle without changing the outline. East-west, across the finger, is the newer look.
- Stone
- Forgiving on clarity: SI1 is often eye-clean. Colour shows a little at the ends; G to H in white metal. Lab-grown is where most long radiants are bought, because the shape rewards size.
How carat reads in a long radiant
A one carat long radiant at 1.40 ratio is around 7.5 by 5.3 millimetres and reads larger than a one carat round. Two carats runs around 9.5 by 6.8 and three around 11 by 7.8. Those sit between the oval and emerald columns of the table below. Because the shape reads big and hides inclusions, it is the one where a lab-grown budget goes furthest: a three carat long radiant in VS clarity is a very large, very bright stone.
| Carat | Round | Oval | Cushion | Emerald | Pear |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.50 ct | 5.1 | 6.0 x 4.0 | 4.5 | 5.5 x 3.5 | 7.0 x 4.5 |
| 0.75 ct | 5.8 | 7.0 x 5.0 | 5.0 | 6.0 x 4.5 | 7.5 x 5.0 |
| 1.00 ct | 6.5 | 7.7 x 5.7 | 5.5 | 7.0 x 5.0 | 8.5 x 5.5 |
| 1.50 ct | 7.4 | 8.5 x 6.5 | 6.5 | 7.5 x 5.5 | 9.5 x 6.5 |
| 2.00 ct | 8.2 | 9.5 x 7.0 | 7.0 | 8.5 x 6.5 | 10.5 x 7.0 |
| 2.50 ct | 8.8 | 10.0 x 7.5 | 7.5 | 9.0 x 7.0 | 11.0 x 7.5 |
| 3.00 ct | 9.4 | 11.0 x 8.0 | 8.0 | 9.5 x 7.5 | 12.0 x 8.0 |

How a ring is made here
The process is the same for every ring. We talk, by video or in person in Bengaluru. We source the stone for you and send its certificate. A designer draws the ring and you approve the renders before any metal is poured. The makers we work with cut and set it in 18k gold or 950 platinum. You see photographs of the finished ring before it ships, insured and tracked, with an insurance valuation in the box.
Every stone comes with its certificate: GIA for lab-grown diamonds, IGI for natural diamonds and GRA for moissanite. The report number is yours to look up on the lab's own site before the ring is made.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between a radiant and an emerald cut?
Same rectangular outline with cut corners, different faceting. The emerald cut is stepped and flashes in sheets; the radiant is brilliant-cut and sparkles all over. The radiant hides inclusions, the emerald cut shows them.
What ratio is a long radiant?
1.35 and above, length to width. 1.40 to 1.50 is the most common. Above 1.60 it reads very long and slim. We show you two ratios on video so you can choose by eye.
Does a long radiant have a bow-tie?
It can, like every elongated brilliant, but less than an oval because the corner facets fill the middle. A well-cut one keeps it faint. We send daylight video of the actual stone.
Is a long radiant durable?
Very. The corners are cut off, so there is no point to chip, and four claws on those corners hold it securely in 18k gold or platinum. It is one of the most practical fancy shapes for a hand that is used hard.
Which metal suits a long radiant?
Platinum or white gold for the cleanest, most modern look. Yellow gold has come back strongly with this shape and warms the stone. Rose gold flatters a slightly lower colour.
