The setting exists to hold it and then get out of the way: most often six claws, sometimes four, a bezel, or a halo if you want the centre to read larger. It is the oldest idea in engagement rings and the one that has never dated. Every ring we make is built around a single centre stone, then finished to suit the hand it is going on.

They are the same material. A lab-grown diamond has the same carbon structure, hardness and fire as a mined one; the difference is where it formed and what it costs. For the same budget, lab-grown usually buys noticeably more carat and a higher clarity grade. Natural diamonds hold their appeal for people who want the geology and the resale story. We set both, certified either way, and we will quote you the same ring in each so you can see the difference rather than take our word for it.

Moissanite is a different stone, not an imitation diamond. It is very hard, wears well daily, and throws noticeably more coloured fire than a diamond does. Some people love exactly that; others find it reads differently in sunlight. It costs a fraction of a diamond at the same size, so it is the honest answer when the size matters more than the material. Moissanite comes with a GRA certificate rather than a GIA or IGI one, and we will tell you exactly what you are getting and why we chose it.

Platinum is denser and holds claws tightly over decades, and it keeps its colour without plating. It is the quieter, heavier choice, and it costs more. 18ct gold (18k, the same thing, spelled the British way and the American) is lighter and warmer, and white gold is rhodium-plated to reach that bright white, which means an occasional re-plate over the years. Both are hard-wearing when the setting is made properly. We cast in recycled 18k yellow, rose and white gold, and in 950 platinum, all hallmarked.

We offer ten: round, oval, princess, emerald, radiant, heart, cushion, pear, marquise and asscher. Round returns the most light and is the safe answer if you genuinely do not know. Oval, pear and marquise are longer, so they lengthen the finger and read larger than their carat weight suggests. Emerald and asscher are step cuts: less fire, more of a clear window into the stone, which rewards a higher clarity grade. Princess and radiant hold their sparkle in a square. Yes, to order. An old mine cut (a miner's cut, or old mine brilliant) is the square-with-rounded-corners stone that preceded the modern cushion: 58 facets, a small table, a high crown and a visible culet, cut in the 1700s and 1800s to catch candlelight rather than electric light. It glows and flashes where a modern brilliant scintillates, and on a GIA report it may be written as an antique cushion. The Dutch marquise is worth a word of warning: it is not a standardised shape, and the trade uses the name two ways: some mean an elongated hexagonal outline with straight angled sides, others mean a marquise cut with antique faceting and softer curves. Tell us which you have seen and we will cut to that, rather than guess.

Most of what people spend goes here, so it is worth being deliberate. A 1 carat solitaire is the most asked-for size and sits comfortably on most hands; 1.5 and 2 carat read noticeably larger and cost more than proportionally, because large rough is rarer. Shape changes the apparent size too: an oval or marquise of the same weight looks bigger than a round. If size matters more than the material, lab-grown or moissanite buys considerably more carat for the same money. Tell us the budget and we will show you the best stone it buys.

Six claws is the classic, what the trade calls six-prong in the US and six-claw here, and it holds the stone high with the least metal in the way of the light. Four claws show a little more of the stone and read more modern. A bezel wraps the girdle in a rim of metal: the most secure by some way, and the one to choose for hands that work. A halo rings the centre with small stones so it reads larger. Pavé runs stones down the band itself. All of them are hand-set here.

Where a budget of that size goes furthest is the stone: a lab-grown diamond or a moissanite buys noticeably more carat and a better clarity grade than a natural stone at the same figure. Ask for the certificate number before you pay. Every stone we supply comes with its certificate: GIA for lab-grown diamonds, IGI for natural diamonds and GRA for moissanite. You can look the report number up on the lab's own website independently of us. It is the one check that does not rely on trusting the seller. Beyond that: you approve renders before any metal is poured, we send photographs of the finished ring before it leaves the bench, everything ships fully insured with tracking, and an insurance valuation comes with it.

Yes, every stone. Lab-grown diamonds come with a GIA certificate, natural diamonds with an IGI certificate, and moissanite with a GRA certificate. The report number is yours. You can look it up independently before the ring is made. The metal carries a BIS hallmark for its purity. An insurance valuation is included with every commission, which is the document your insurer will actually ask for. If a certificate matters to you for a particular stone, tell us and we will source to it.

No. Duties and taxes are handled before the ring reaches you in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and across Europe, so the price we quote is the price you pay. No customs bill at the door, which is the part people are usually caught out by when buying jewellery from abroad. Everything ships fully insured with tracking, and we send photographs of the finished ring before it leaves the bench. Brazil is the one exception, where import tax runs above 60% and we set it out in full on our Portuguese page.

Most people do not know it, and that is fine. Borrow a ring she already wears on that hand and we can work from its inside diameter, or tell us her height and build and we will start from the size that fits most hands and adjust. Sizing systems differ: the US and Canada use numbers, while the UK, Ireland, Australia and South Africa use letters. Tell us which you are quoting and we will convert. A resize afterwards is routine, which is the real safety net.

Re-polishing is free for the life of the ring. Resizing is available, with the cost confirmed before any work starts. Bring it back whenever it has stopped looking new, and we check and re-tension the claws at the same time. If a setting ever fails because of how it was made, we put it right.
